LATEST NEWS ON The San Francisco Chronicle decision to drop Zippy from their comics pages: 2000 LETTERS?! START A PETITION! That's what the Chronicle says it needs to restore Zippy to its comics pages. (So far, the number is at about 500). Apparently, the magic number is calculated on the basis of the protest mail received by the LA Times when it dropped------ready??----Rex Morgan, MD. (the Chron's current Deputy Managing Editor was previously at that paper). Who knew Zippy's and Rex's careers were so intertwined? Only 1500 more letters and Zippy's back! Send your PETITIONS --click for print-out--(with name, address and town of each signer) to: Carolyn White, S.F. Chronicle, 901 Mission St., S.F. CA 94103 As of today (5/17/04), the Chronicle is still hanging tough on their strange move to exclude Zippy from its comics pages (while retaining a blank space where the strip once ran, directing readers to the online Zippy strip for the day). (Meanwhile, Zippy now appears daily in the San Francisco Examiner ...). Chron editors may still bring Zippy back in print in some form (there are indications of this)-- so keep urging them to restore Zippy daily & Sunday! KEEP WRITING and PETITIONING THE CHRONICLE-- tell them you want Zippy back IN PRINT!! The "SAVE OUR ZIPPY" CHRONICLE RALLY was held on APRIL 1st, 2004 (Zippy's birthday) on the steps of the Old U.S. Mint building & at the San Francisco Chronicle building (both at 5th & Mission Sts., SF CA)-------Over 200 Zippy supporters showed up!! The Bay Area's Channel 5 News (KPIX-TV/Bill Schechner) did a great piece (incl. an interview with B.G.) that night (April 1st). Other media coverage of the Rally: KFOG Radio, KGO Radio, MSNBC, The Discovery Channel, S.F. Bay Guardian. THANKS and a big Tip O' Th' Pin to all the Pinheads at Laughing Squid for help in organizing this celebration! Zippy fans in Chico CA (SF Chronicle territory) are also upset about Zippy's removal--here's an article in this week's CHICO NEWS & REVIEW. THE SUREST WAY TO BRING ZIPPY BACK IS TO SEND REPEATED EMAILS TO THE CHRONICLE--(over the next few weeks)---THE FINAL DECISION ABOUT ZIPPY'S RETURN IS STILL IN THE WORKS--DON'T STOP E-MAILING & CALLING! Yes, The San Francisco Chronicle dropped Zippy from their
comics pages on 3/15/04. (The "last" Zippy Sunday strip will
run on 3/21/04) Here's how to remedy the situation: CALL the Chron to protest: Hundreds of readers have called and sent emails. Keep it up!
